Paul Scharner to undergo medical at West Brom

West Brom have agreed terms to sign Paul Scharner on a free transfer subject to him passing a medical on Monday.

Scharner will sign a two year contract and immediately set about getting up to full fitness in time for Albion's next game against Harry Redknapp's Tottenham.

The signing of Scharner will be seen as a massive coup for the Baggies who had been linked with the less experienced Mark Wilson of Portsmouth for the defensive Midfield role.

Scharner himself is delighted with the chance to ply his trade again in the Premier League in his favoured midfield position after becoming disillusioned at Wigan playing in central defence.

Following hot on the heels of the signing of Scharner West Brom are also looking to complete the signing of Rochdale's Craig Dawson. Twenty year old Dawson is a central defender who is seen as one for the future but his and the signing of Scharner will hasten the departure of Abdoulaye Meite who appears destined to return to France.

Wondered why noone hasn't signed him yet, great signing for a top 8 club never mind a relegation candidate team.

The signing of Scharner will be great provided he is fit.
