'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sweet FA against Reading

Roberto Di Matteo vented his anger today at the way that his team threw away their FA Cup hopes in the 3-2 defeat against Reading.

The general consensus amongst fans and management alike was that Albion handed Reading a quarter-final clash, against Villa, on a plate.

West Brom squandered their lead in the third minute of added time allowing Brian Howard to level the score to 2-2 and take the game into extra time.

Questions will be asked about some shocking defending from Gianni Zuiverloon for that last ditch equaliser and from Abdoulaye Meite that allowed Gylfi Sigurdsson to score the extra-time winner.

Di Matteo offered some opinions on the outcome: "Personally I`m destroyed, because we were in the driving seat and it wasn`t even a dangerous situation. All we needed to do was clear the ball.'

It seems to be the familiar defensive panic station that occurs whenever a hopeful ball is booted upfield towards Carson.

"For their second and third goals we just didn`t defend and gave them gifts to win the game.' said the boss.

"Our defending wasn`t good and it cost us dearly. We were in the driving seat and played well. We did everything to win the game and then we just threw it away."

Albion were back in training today without the injured Bednar who limped off in the first half. They prepare to meet Derby on Saturday and even though confidence and pride will have taken a knock, things simply have to improve.
