Southgate sacking sign of the times?

After a 2-0 win over Derby on Tuesday, Gareth Southgate became the latest manager to join the Avram Grant Mysteriously Sacked Society.

I've always thought that Southgate was well liked at Middlesborough and I must say that, with them sitting one point off the top of the table, the announcement came as a bit of a surprise.

Chairman Steve Gibson also seems to be popular at the club and by all accounts it looks like this decision has been coming for some time. Results at home haven't exactly set the division alight, and there was that 5-0 thrashing recently, but that was a blip surely.

I'm not sure that it's a good sign when young promising managers like Southgate are being sacked 13 games into the season and perennial failures like Sven Goran Eriksson seem to be getting job offers left right and centre.

read some quotes from Gibson yesterday saying the fans opinions were clear and also the results were papering over the cracks performance wise. Hmmm. Strange timing, you'd have thought they'd do it after being relegated.

Maybe they were just waiting until a replacement was on hand. Ah, Mr. Strachan, your dug out is ready for you now sir.
