Super Baggies close the gap
30 January 2010
Albion take full advantage of the Forest defeat at Derby by overpowering a committed Sheffield United team and earning a vital 3-1 win at The Hawthorns.
A pretty dull game overall, thanks to Sheffield United's uninspiring football, Albion set things alight with goals from the late fitness arrivals Dorrans and Bednar to go 2-0 up before half time. For Dorrans this was a third penalty conversion in three games.
Darius Henderson pulled a goal back straight after the break with the game's second penalty, but only two minutes after that Jerome Thomas struck a 15-yard shot that deflected off Morgan into the Sheffield goal.
Some experimental refereeing towards the end of the match yielded unnecessary yellow cards for Brunt and Cech, and a certain sending off was missed for United's Henri Camara who escaped having thrown two punches at Jonas Olsson.
This win leaves the Baggies two points behind second placed Forest, but with a game in hand against Blackpool on Wednesday we could be back in second place before next weeks trip to Plymouth.
