'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No crisis, says Tony

'Let`s not make a crisis out of one home defeat,` was manager Tony Mowbray`s impassioned plea to the club`s official website.

Fair point, Tony. But what concerns many fans is not the defeat itself but the manner of it.

Once again we lost three valuable points through naive defending.

We play attacking and entertaining football, which inevitably means we defend from the front. When injuries hit or the forwards have an off day responsibility shifts to the back four.

And all too often they`ve shown they`re not up to the task.

Where`s the commanding central defender we were so obviously lacking last season? Where are the midfield soldiers you talked about at the start of the season?

With the opening of the transfer window less than four weeks away most of the players we are being linked with are midfielders or forwards.

Most fans will be hoping someone has an ace up their sleeve and that at least two key signings are in the pipeline in time for January 1st.

If not, our big fear is that we will again lose out on that coveted promotion spot.
