Ex-Baggie Leaves For MLS

Former Albion, Sunderland and Derby County striker Danny Dichio has left Preston North to join Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC.

The former Hawthorns striker has been allowed to leave Deepdale straight away on a free transfer as the MLS transfer window ends next Sunday.

Dichio joined the Baggies from Sunderland, initially on a months loan in August 2001, and was snapped up in November for £1.25M. In all he played 59 times (as well as 16 sub appearances) and scored just 18 goals.

During his time at the Hawthorns he was sent out on loan to Derby County and Millwall, he joined the Lions in a £200k fee in February 2004 and later joined Championship side Preston North End.

Toronto, a new team this season for the MLS franchise kick started their new season last weekend with a 4-0 defeat to the hands of New England Revolution. Dichio could make his debut at Kansas City Wizards on 25 April.

Dichio will team up with some familiar faces at his new club; the MLS outfit also have Jim Brennan and Carl Robson, both formerly with Norwich City on their books, whilst Andy Welsh (ex-Sunderland) is also playing for the Canadian side.
