Instant Reactions - Everton v West Brom (20/1/18)

Following today's clash between Everton and West Bromwich Albion, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Everton hosted West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park on Saturday January 20, with both sides playing out a one all draw.

The visitors opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the game as Jay Rodriguez found the back of the net, but a leveller from second half substitute Oumar Niasse earned the hosts a point on the day.

The game was overshadowed by James McCarthy sustaining a broken leg as he challenged Salomon Rondon for the ball in a goal saving tackle. Rondon was left in tears at the incident.

Pickford, Kenny, Holgate, Williams, Martina, McCarthy (Rooney 61), Schneiderlin, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Vlasic (Bolasie 45), Tosun (Niasse 69).

Keane, Jagielka, Gueye, Robles.

West Brom:

Foster, Dawson, Evans (McAuley 80), Hegazi, Gibbs, Phillips, Krychowiak, Barry, Brunt (Livermore 79), Rodriguez (McClean 79), Rondon.

Nyom, Robson-Kanu, Myhill, Field.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Stuart Attwell blew the final whistle, Everton manager Sam Allardyce explained.

'I think frustration is an understatement. I'm holding it in. The players know they didn't perform today. There was a lack of performance and we must pick ourselves up and work hard to be more ready mentally.'

With new signing Theo Walcott making his debut.

'Our players must understand where Theo likes to have the ball. Our players didn't pass well today. He's a great player with plenty of talent but we have to play in the right way.'

West Bromwich Albion head coach Alan Pardew in his comparative interview explained.

'There was disappointment in the dressing room and I was pleased with that, not coming off celebrating a draw here because we should've won.'

As for Rondon, Pardew praised his performance.

'He was the outstanding player on the pitch and big Cyrille Regis would've been proud of him out there today. It was a fitting tribute and a great performance from Salomon.'
