Pulis Pleased With Evans Stay

Head coach Tony Pulis has been speaking about how pleased he was to see West Bromwich Albion keep Jonny Evans as we head into the game against Manchester City tonight.

With a number of offers coming in for the Northern Ireland international and our new skipper as the summer transfer window came to a close, tonight's opposition in the third round of the EFL Cup was the prime mover for his signature, but Pulis told Sky Sports yesterday that he was delighted to see the club stick to our internal valuation of him and not cash in for a reduced fee.

Pulis said of the 29 year old.

'We're pleased that value is that value, and I'm even more pleased we never took any bid. I think he's done well here in lots of respects. He's become a better defender. He's always technically been a good centre-half, but he now has the responsibility of being captain will take him on again. He's a very fit lad and Jonny has got a lot more in the tank. He's a lad who could play well into his thirties.'

With Evans saying that he more than understood what was going on during the window, and largely ignored it until the time he would've heard any different from the club, Pulis was also pleased with his attitude over the period and how he coped with the situation.

'You heard about Jonny more because it was the bigger clubs after him. You have to manage it. It is not easy and you have to manage it within the group because there are a lot more players. It's important you keep all that together.'

Adding.

'I think he said he was a West Brom player until anything changed and he's remained a West Brom player, thank goodness. We move on with it now and we'll march forward.'
