Evans Looking Forward To West Brom Return

Evans Looking Forward To West Brom Return

Centre half Jonny Evans has said he's looking forward to teaming back up with West Bromwich Albion following the international break.

Evans is currently with the Northern Ireland camp for their World Cup qualifiers this window and it has been a semi unsettling period with offers from Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester City all coming in ahead of the deadline day window slamming shut.

But all offers were rejected as they didn't meet our £30million valuation and with the 29 year old missing our Premier League campaign so far with a hamstring injury, he told the Birmingham Mail that he was looking forward to getting is season started now and just getting on with life at the club as he always said he'd do.

'I'm a West Brom player and I'm the captain. I spoke about that in my programme notes last week and I'll be looking forward to going back and seeing the lads. I don't really know much of what went on because I've been away on international duty.'

Evans went on to say again that he's just tried to stay focused whilst he's been away from the club but he expects to find out more when he returns to the training ground but the understanding he had with the club for deadline day did help make things simpler.

'You try to focus on that when you're in a hotel but when I get back I'm sure I will have a chat with the chairman and the manager. Before I left we'd said, 'If something happens or it doesn't we'll just get on with it'. As a player you don't really know what's going on a lot of the time and a lot of things are word of mouth. We're not involved in that process but everything was left on good terms because it was a hypothetical situation. I just want to get on with what I was doing and see what happens.'

Speaking more on the unsettling nature of transfer windows, he admitted it's just about keeping your focus, not getting carried away and in many cases remembering you already have a contract to honour.

'It's been fine really. In the back of my mind it was always 'whatever happens, happens and just get on with it'. I think I'm quite strong mentally. Over the years you learn to deal with things as a footballer and concentrating on your football. The most important thing for me was making sure I was fit for the game and deal with that side of it. The window closes one day before the game which is not ideal. The game came at the right time.'
