Brunt To Mark 500th Appearance Against Burnley
If Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt takes to the pitch this weekend in the game against Burnley, our long standing player will be making his 500th club appearance in football.
Having spent time with Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion after coming through Middlesbrough youth ranks, Brunt sits on 499 career appearances in club football - clearly he's already broke through the 500 mark when you include international games - but speaking to wba.co.uk in the build up to this weekend's action, the player himself admitted he hadn't thought too much about the milestone.
'It's something you don't really think about too much when you start off. Every year bar last year I've been pretty regular in every team I've played for. I always average over 30 games a season so they rack up quicky.'
Hitting the milestone at only 32 year's old, Brunt is obviously hoping he can continue to add significantly to that number should he reach 500 on Saturday.
'It's gone pretty quickly - some seasons have gone quicker than others! It doesn't feel like ten years. I've enjoyed every season and I'm hoping there's still a couple left.'
He also joked that as he gets older, there's certainly more of an emphasis on the medical side of life rather than anything else.
'When you're younger you want to throw yourself around and go 100mph. As you get older everything is geared towards getting as fit as you possibly can be for a Saturday afternoon. Now I spend a lot more time focusing on the medical side of things so I'm ready to go at the weekend.'
