Gillett Talks Austria

Gillett Talks Austria

Director of Performance Mark Gillett has been speaking about how the players are faring after the first few sessions out in our pre season tour of Austria.

With head coach Tony Pulis' regime well known during pre season campaigns, it is our third straight trip to Austria for the gruelling fitness work he enjoys putting the players through and Gillett had been pleased with the work that had been done so far.

Speaking to wba.co.uk yesterday, he explained.

'The trip suits our needs really well. Tony's been doing it for a number of years and it fits in with our Strength and Conditioning philosophy. The exercises are very mentally and physically tasking. It's hard but it works for us. That's been proven over the last two seasons.'

Having picked up the Premier League Medical and Science Team of the Year award last May in recognition of our work behind the scenes and the fact our squad lost the least number of hours on the pitch across last year with injury, Gillett went on to say.

'We had a good injury record last season and the players tended to perform well in games. Because of that record we won't be changing the routine here too much. This week will mirror last year almost perfectly. The days where players come back from summer holiday unconditioned are long gone. In the main the players have dealt well with the sessions so far.'
