Chinese Youngster Joins Up

Chinese Youngster Joins Up

West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Chinese youngster Yuning Zhang.

The 20 year old his pretty highly rated and he's been playing with Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch Eredivisie since 2015, and he moves to The Hawthorns on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Describing the signing as a 'development project' he's very much a player potentially for the future and West Brom confirmed that the fee paid was an investment outside of our ring fenced transfer budget for this season.

With China outside of FIFA top 50 work rankings, the youngster would not have been given a work permit for England so he has been immediately loaned out to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen to continue his development.

Richard Garlick, Director of Football Administration, told wba.co.uk.

'Zhang will get the chance to further develop at Bremen, with whom we have an excellent relationship. He will be challenging for a place in a top European league and we will be monitoring his progress before reassessing his prospects at the end of the loan period. There is no doubt he has a lot of qualities which Bremen are well-positioned to grow and develop.'

He added.

'His progress will be the subject of great interest here at Albion but also in Germany and in China. There is no doubt that there are commercial benefits that come with the deal but the primary target is to help develop one of the best young players in a booming corner of the football industry.'

Zhang is pretty well known in China despite his tender age as he scored twice on his international debut for his country against Trinidad and Tobago a year ago and he's now a regular inclusion in the national team.
