Phillips Pleased With West Brom Return

Winger Matt Phillips was delighted to return to Tony Pulis' starting line up in the game against Southampton, but tasting defeat on the day he's now targeting a strong finish to the season given what the club can still achieve in the Premier League.

Our No 10 picked up a hamstring injury in training in the two all draw against West Ham in mid February and he has spent six weeks on the sidelines, and was also forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad for their March international clashes against Slovenia and Canada, and following his second half appearance against Watford, he got an hour under his belt against Southampton from the start.

With eight assists and five goals to his name in his maiden year at the club, Phillips is now hoping to get back to that level of form in the remaining matches of the year.

Speaking to wba.co.uk to discuss his return to fitness, Phillips explained.

'On a personal level it was great for me to be back out on the pitch playing again. It`s been five or six weeks since I have played so it was important to get through an hour or so against Southampton. It was good to be able to complete 60 minutes but it was obviously a disappointing result on Saturday.'

He went on to add.

'I had 45 minutes against Watford last week too so it was important to build on that in the Southampton game. There were a couple of setbacks along the way but hopefully I can kick on. There`s plenty of time to recover ahead of the Liverpool game on Sunday and I am hoping to have a good week in training and then push on. We`ve got six games left now and the boys are all so determined to make sure we get as many points on the board as possible.'
