Pulis & Livermore On England Call

Pulis & Livermore On England Call

Midfielder Jake Livermore and head coach Tony Pulis have both been giving their reaction to the former Hull City's players call up to the England squad this week.

On Thursday head coach Gareth Southgate confirmed his squad for the friendly against Germany and the World Cup 2018 qualifier against Lithuania later this month, and Livermore was a surprise pick in the midfield ranks.

Speaking to wba.co.uk to give his reaction to the news, Livermore explained.

'It's fantastic for myself, my family and the Club. But ultimately I owe a lot of it to my manager and to the players I'm playing with. They've been fantastic since I've got here.'

Livermore went on to joke that Pulis gave him the news, but he thought he'd done something wrong when he was sent to his office.

'The manager pulled me in to his office and I wasn't sure if I'd done something wrong! It was like being back at school! He gave me the news and I'm absolutely delighted. Hopefully I can do myself and the Club proud.'

With it potentially being Livermore's second cap, have made his England debut whilst with Tottenham Hotspur back in 2012, Pulis said he was 'absolutely delighted' by the call up.

'I am absolutely delighted for him - he`s been a pleasure to have around the Club from the moment he signed and thoroughly deserves this selection. Jake has so much to offer and is only just really starting with us. There is a lot more to come. At the moment, he is still in the process of understanding exactly what we want from him in his role with us but he has all the tools to complete the task.'

With the call up reflecting well on West Brom itself, Pulis went on to say.

'It`s brilliant news for the club. I am told Albion haven`t had an outfield player on the pitch for England since Steve Hunt in 1984 and that`s much too long. Let`s hope Jake gets his opportunity because he deserves it.'
