Gera Return

Zoltan Gera finally made his Albion comeback in the reserves clash against Aston Villa on Monday night. Good news for all Albion fans is that he came through the opening forty five minutes of Monday’s clash with no problems and should appear in the squad for Saturday’s game at Portsmouth.

When asked about his fitness, Gera said: “I’m feeling okay. My groin is getting better but I need more training and running work before I play in the Premiership.”

Gera has been unlucky with injuries so far this season. He started the season with a hand injury that he picked up in the final game of last season against Portsmouth at The Hawthorns which then got infected. Once he recovered from this injury he was struck down again, this time with a groin injury that required surgery. Having played on Monday night, every Albion fan is hoping that this is an end to Zoltan’s injury jinx.

Albion boss Bryan Robson knows what a difference a fully fit Gera can make and will not rush him straight back into the starting eleven. With Joe Kamara and Kanu leaving in January for the African Cup of Nations, Robson knows that he can ill afford to lose Gera again to injury. I would expect to see him given a chance to come on from the bench on Saturday depending on how the game is going.

At least Zoltan can see an end to his injury nightmare and hopefully the Albion faithful can see him recapture the form and commitment that made him our hero last season
