Irvine - Injuries Are Testing Us

Irvine - Injuries Are Testing Us

Head coach Alan Irvine has admitted that he's bitterly disappointed to see Albion lose our unbeaten record and our winning run against Nottingham Forest today.

A one nil defeat to a 'poor' goal was an annoyance for the gaffer, but speaking to wba.co.uk following the game, the gaffer admitted that injuries and the players we have missing at the moment are taking their toll on us.

'It was a disappointing result because we've won all our previous games so we didn't want that to happen, clearly. It was a poor goal to concede, and it was disappointing to get beaten as easily as that. You don't mind losing to good goals and goals where the team have had to work really hard. But it was a long diagonal, which we didn't deal with.'

Going on to say that we were 'really stretched' today with the available selections, whilst there were obviously positives that can be taken from the match, he says training yesterday featured the starting XI he was going to select, but he had to make changes with the problems we have fitness wise, and it made it difficult to work on our style of play because people were being shuffled round.

'We're so thin on the ground that we're trying to look after people, we took Saido off because he was feeling tight, but these things happen.'

Adding that he felt we started well in the first half and finished it well, but we just didn't really look a threat and like we were going to put together a move we could capitalise on. However he felt we were much better at that in the second period where we did create good chances, but we just didn't take them.

He also said that work continues on trying to bring people in to give us more options and he highlighted the positions up front.
