'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Irvine Hails Strike Duo

Head coach Alan Irvine has hailed the work rate and form of striking pair Saido Berahino and Victor Anichebe following our win over Sacramento Republic.

With both of them scoring in the three one victory, Irvine told wba.co.uk that he'd been delighted with them both during the pre season preparations so far.

'I've been absolutely delighted with Victor and Saido. They've been terrific since I came in, both day in and day out in training and also in the games.'

With Sacramento closing the door on our mini tour and with us flying back this weekend, the gaffer was also delighted with how the visit to the States had gone and the improvements he's seen in our play and fitness levels whilst we were out there.

'It's been a terrific week. We've been really well looked after and we've nothing to complain about at all. The training ground's been good, the weather's obviously been fantastic, the hotel's been great. Off the pitch it's been fantastic, while on it the boys have done a lot of really good work.'

The only downside he admits was that we have been carrying a couple of injuries, namely Joleon Lescott and Gareth McAuley but he's hoping those two will return to training next week.

With that said he admits it was a real bonus to get Chris Brunt back for the last couple of days and James Morrison made his return on the last day as well, so things are improving on that score.
