Shrewsbury 1-2 Albion

West Bromwich Albion kicked off their first 'open' friendly of the summer earlier this evening against Shrewsbury Town at the Greenhous Meadow and recorded our second pre season win of 2014-15 so far.

A few days back we entertained Bury in a behind closed doors game, that we won two nil, and whilst that game goes down in history as new head coach Alan Irvine's first match, this was the first time fans got to see the team under his control.

First half goals from Victor Anichebe and Youssouf Mulumbu gave us a deserved win given how the game progressed, as we were in charge for most of the game, and bossed it as you would expect even at this stage of our fitness work.

In between the two goals for us, Shrewsbury did find a leveller through Scott Vernon, but we were quickly back in the lead, and the second half was far tighter than the first with neither keeper really troubled over the final 45 minutes.

New signing Sebastien Pocognoli was given an instant start in the game, but fellow signings Craig Gardner and Chris Baird started on the bench.

Irvine decided to not risk Joleon Lescott nor Gareth McAuley as both sustained tight calves following our training regime. Chris Brunt (groin) and James Morrison (knee) also missed out through injury, and obviously Ben Foster is on an extended break following the World Cup.
