Lescott Delighted To Reunite With Irvine

Having penned his two year deal at the club earlier today, defender Joleon Lescott has said that the opportunity to reunite with Alan Irvine played a big part in his decision to move to the club.

With a number of Premiership clubs interested in signing the 31 year old, our current coaching make up certainly had an impact in his decision, as he has worked previously with Irvine during their time at Everton where our head coach was David Moyes assistant, and he has also worked with joint assistants Keith Downing and Rob Kelly during their time at Wolves, so he knows exactly what to expect and what will be demanded of him.

Speaking to wba.co.uk as he gave his first interview since signing the deal, Lescott explained how important the Irvine connection was saying it was 'massive' and he cut short his holiday in Portugal to come and sign for us today.

'Working with Alan and knowing how he works from Everton. At the time I hadn't played left back and he took the time out to guide me and help me out in any way I needed. I was reluctant to play at left back but I knew I was doing a job for the team and Alan helped me with that. We've stayed in contact throughout the time we haven't worked together.'

Of course the Downing connection.

'Keith, I've known for years, he was my youth team manager and has been a massive influence on my career. Again, I've spoken to him throughout my career and whenever I've needed advice I'll give him a text or a call. They're people I admire in the game.'

New joint assistant Rob Kelly was also his youth development officer at Wolves.

'Knowing them all has made the decision a little bit easier while the location also helps. It all just fell into place nicely.'
