'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mel Ahead Of Hull

Head coach Pepe Mel has discussed a number of things ahead of the Hull game this weekend, and well, here they are.

With Chris Brunt injured and Jonas Olsson suspended, it has already been announced that Gareth McAuley will take over the armband in their absence and speaking to wba.co.uk ahead of the game, Mel said that he couldn't have a more ideal replacement really.

'Of course it's easy for me. McAuley I think is best for us - he's calm, a good professional, thinks on the pitch, and he's always next to the referee.'

Having led his country on a number of occasions, Mel adds that for the younger members of the team it's good for them to have someone to look up to, who leads by example both in training and during game, and in the absence of our official armband wearers he's the obvious go to option because of his attitude and experience.

The gaffer has also admitted that with Olsson out for the Hull game, he is continuing a return to the 352 formation that worked well against Swansea.

'Hull and West Brom both need to win. It's a big match and very difficult for us. They have a clear way to win, it's a difficult match for us. Now Jonas is suspended, in my head is another way to win the next match. It's important for us now that the players know two different ways to play and win.'

Of course the game will also be a reunion of sorts as we will face off against Shane Long for the first time since his departure - and Mel has admitted he would've liked to have kept him but the deal was nigh on done when he joined the club - but also Hull have in their ranks former players Curtis Davies, Robert Koren and Paul McShane.

Which will certainly add to the atmosphere if nothing else.
