'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Brunt On Quick Return - McAuley Captain

Midfielder Chris Brunt has said he aims to return to fitness quickly and that he did fear it would be a case of season over for him. McAuley will also be skipper this weekend.

First up is Brunt who has been speaking to wba.co.uk following the injury he sustained in the game against Manchester United.

Scans since then have revealed medial ligament damage which will keep him out for between five to six weeks in total, but the player explained that he did think the news would be far worse, so he's pleased he can still return in time to have some kind of say in our final matches.

'I've been happy with the way I've been playing since Christmas. To not be able to help turn draws into wins is disappointing but you get on with it and support the lads in what we're trying to achieve. I was gutted when I got injured, it was only a matter of time before we got a result and to not be involved was gutting.'

Brunt goes on to say that it's a massive boost for everyone and we certainly deserved the result we got because the players have been putting in the effort on the training pitch, and it's even given him a boost in his rehab work because obviously everyone around the club is happier on the back of a win.

With Brunt obviously out, head coach Pepe Mel has confirmed that Gareth McAuley will wear the armband with the additional loss of Jonas Olsson to suspension this weekend when we play Hull.

With other injury issues still rumbling on it also looks likely that youngster Liam O'Neil and Donervorn Daniels will again be in the travelling squad.

'I need defenders because I only have four. It's possible Daniels but tomorrow is the last training session, which is important.'

Mel has also said that backroom duo Dean Kiely and Keith Downing are key for him during half time in games because they get his ideas across far more quickly than he can until his English improves a lot further, joking that if he tried to handle it at the moment, the referee would've restarted the game before he'd finished.
