Berahino - Chelsea Was No Fluke

Berahino - Chelsea Was No Fluke

Young striker Saido Berahino has insisted that the Chelsea result was no fluke for Albion as everyone gears up to finishing the season on a high.

The campaign so far in 2013-14 has had far more downs than ups, and results certainly haven't been what they should've as we looked to build on our previous league finish - but fast forward a few months and we've welcomed a new head coach and we find ourselves rooted amongst the clubs fighting for their Premiership lives, and we are on level points with Sunderland, only out of the drop zone by goal difference.

Fair enough, the table is extraordinarily tight this year at the bottom, and unlike most years where usually it at least feels like one or two clubs in the relegation zone have already drifted away, four points separate us from Fulham who prop the table up, and four points separate us from 12th place.

A run of three wins on the bounce could literally change the fortunes of any team in the bottom half, and our aim has to be one of the teams that puts a run like that together.

The heady heights of eighth place and 49 points look a distant dream at the moment, and we aren't going to get there again but 10th place is very doable with the games left and the points on offer, and that has to be our aim.

With tough and difficult games coming up a point against Chelsea in our last match was the perfect way to lay down a marker that we can now build on, and speaking to wba.co.uk Saido Berahino said that this was what the team had to make that all important and unexpected point and even though the players know it wasn't a fluke and they know a draw was the least they deserved for their efforts on the day, we now have to back that up by getting maximum points to really lift us and lift us quickly away from the bottom.

'It's tight at the bottom and we know that anything can happen, but if we perform like we did against Chelsea every week there will be no problem. It was great that we got the equaliser because it wasn't a fluke, it was something that we deserved. Everybody put in a shift and helped us to get that point that we needed.'

Berahino goes on to say that despite results, the squad are confident and believe that we can stay up and secure our future for next season ahead of the end of the campaign, but he knows how important the fans will continue to be in the remaining games with how they back the team and help drive them on.
