'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mel - We Must Learn Lessons

Head coach Pepe Mel has said that the Albion players must show that they have learned some lessons when we face Crystal Palace this weekend.

Mel has said that in many ways the challenge ahead of us is similar to the one we faced when we played Aston Villa, because it will be a very different game to the one that we saw when we drew with Liverpool.

Speaking to wba.co.uk ahead of the game, he said.

'The players want to play the way we are playing, we have only been working on it for three weeks, but, for example, against Liverpool 32% of our regains were in the opposition half. For West Brom that is a very good day, and this is the way for me.'

Mel goes on to say the difficulty that Palace will pose us is different because they hit their targets and then rely on the midfielders to pick up the knock downs and the seconds balls, so we will have to be alive in a different way and pressure them slightly differently.

'The last time we encountered this against Villa it was a problem, but hopefully the players have learned from this.'

The game could be crucial in the relegation battle this season in the Premiership because only goal difference separates both teams ultimately, and we are both only one point ahead of the drop zone, so whichever way the win goes it will be a boost to their fortunes, and we have to ensure it goes our way and we push them right into the mix and build more of a gap ourselves.
