40 Points Great, But We Must Improve

Steve Clarke was delighted to see us reach the 40 point mark in the league today, but he has warned the squad they must defend leads better.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Clarke said it was a nervy 10 minutes at the end, and we must do all we can to ensure we see games out in a more comfortable fashion.

'I'm pleased with the win and I'm reasonably satisfied with the performance, I'm a little bit disappointed that we seemed to be hanging on at the end. The one thing I said to the players after the game is if we want to improve as a team we have to manage games like that, it shouldn't become such an open game. That would be my only criticism.'

A perfectly valid one at well, at 2-0 yes Sunderland would throw everything, as would any team, but that should be where we can kill the game off completely by taking advantage of them pushing.

Now 40 points have been achieved, Clarke said he always thought 50 points would be doable for us, so that is what we aim for now going forward - although again he admits a spot of disappointment that we didn't reach it quicker and back in January.
