'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Thomas Has Future

For all intents and purposes Jerome Thomas' loan spell at Leeds has been a success so far, as Keith Downing has explained the thinking behind the move.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail about the wideman, our assistant coach explained that the move was purely about fitness, and nothing to do with any statement about his future at the club as some have suggested.

'The reason Jerome went out was to get games under his belt, Steve found he couldn't give that regularity of games so we wanted him to go out and get some football.'

Jerome has been injured and hampered by niggles, and he's getting the pitch time he needs and the loan could well be extended as he's been impressing.

'We're not shutting the door at all on Jerome. We can't fit him in at the moment. He's a good consummate player who works hard - it was unfortunate he should get injured when Steve came in.'

I certainly don't think he'll not return. Especially with the start to the season we've had, giving him the pitch time to get back to full fitness and match sharpness was probably too big a risk, so a loan spell is the ideal opportunity to get him back up to speed so he can slot naturally back into the first team without any lag from his injury.
