Joke Bumfires On Ridgewell

Wouldn't normally cover this but it did make me laugh, Liam Ridgewell has got himself into a bit of hot water after a private joke.

An enraged fan apparently, got hold of a picture of Ridge pretending to wipe his backside with a wad of £20 notes as if it were toilet paper, and thought it was sensible to send it to The Sun.

The fan who wished to remain anonymous told the tabloid.

'The people of West Brom earn a fraction of what this idiot earns yet he makes a mockery of his good fortune like this. It makes me sick.'

In many ways I might suggest 'the people of West Brom' as a group probably earn more than Ridge does, but seriously, are we to presume somebody thought this was genuine and not a joke?

Are sensibilities really so offended in our politically correct world where a footballer can't possibly have a private joke with a friend? Thank God some of my jokes have never been made public!

Ridge himself explained.

'The photo was taken in the privacy of my home around 8 months ago as a joke to wind up a mate who I had just won a personal bet with. I only intended him to see the photo but now it's public I can understand how it will be viewed. I am sorry for any offence it causes.'

No apology necessary Liam, and I don't believe it paints the club in a bad light as suggested by a club spokesperson.

It's a joke, they are still allowed I'm led to believe.

More sense than to have a private joke between friends? What can the club take action against, having a sense of humour in the privacy of his own home? Fair do's if he did it at the ground or training ground, that would be different.
