Pre Stoke Injury News

Steve Clarke has explained the absence of Steven Reid and Zoltan Gera, plus provided a few updates on others.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Clarke explained that he felt Reid would benefit from a few more training sessions before returning to the first team and that Zoltan Gera picked up a groin problem - but he probably would've rested him anyway.

'Steven is okay. I looked at the team and decided he wouldn't figure, so he stayed at home and did a little extra training. Zoltan had a niggle in his groin and we decided not to risk him. Maybe three games in a week would be a big ask anyway, so we decided to use the squad as wisely as we could. We made one or two changes and it didn't work, so we move on.'

Clarke also explained that Ben Foster underwent a minor operation on Tuesday because of the problems he was having in his right groin.

Reid may be in contention for Stoke, Gera will have to pass a late fitness test and Foster will remain missing.
