Ashworth Happy With Summer Dealings

Dan Ashworth has said that preparations for next summer's transfer dealings are already underway, but he's very pleased with the moves we made last summer.

Speaking to wba.co.uk our departing Sporting and Technical Director said that the feedback he's heard from fans proves that the club got it right in our summer dealings.

'Every previous transfer window, the word outside the club has been 'we need another defender, we need another midfielder etc' but I think this is the first window we haven't had any criticism. Whether that's a good sign or a bad sign, I don't know! But we've filled all the slots we planned to, and, short of any injuries or fantastic offers on players, I can't really see us doing an awful lot in January.'

As for plans for next summer, Ashworth revealed that an internal email went round the club when the summer window shut, detailing potential targets for next summer, so Albion are already ahead of the curve and will make a move if it's deemed appropriate.

'If the right ones come up in January ready for our summer business, either on pre contracts, players in the last six months of their contract, or an incredible deal is available, we know the positions we want to strengthen.'

As for his inevitable departure to the FA, Ashworth joked that helping to find his successor was partly like planning his own funeral.

'There is no time pressure on this, we don't need to make any knee jerk decisions. A lot of people have applied for the role, we've had approaches from abroad but we don't have a time frame on a shortlist.'
