We Have The Depth To Cover African Nations

We Have The Depth To Cover African Nations

Steve Clarke has said he believes the Albion squad has the depth to cover the potential loss of Peter Odemwingie and Youssouf Mulumbu if selected for African Nations Cup duty.

Speaking to wba.co.uk after both players' national sides booked their place in the competition, Clarke was confident that Albion could cope without both players if needed.

'We spoke about it at the start of the season, we knew we had the possibility of losing Youssouf if he came out of international retirement, which he did. I'm not sure about Peter, he hasn't been called up since I've been here, but we think we have enough in the squad to cover any absences in January. If not, it's a good month for it because the transfer window is open again, but as things we're comfortable with the squad we've got.'

To be honest as things stand you wouldn't imagine Odemwingie will be off, leaving only Mulumbu, but this time round we have Yacob to cover his strict position and other good options in midfield. Even upfront with Rosenberg, Lukaku and you'd imagine El Ghanassy will be looking for appearances around the new year, so even if it's not like for like with Peter, there are options to choose from.
