Clarke Not Overly Surprised By Our Form

Clarke Not Overly Surprised By Our Form

Steve Clarke has said he knew he was inheriting a good set of players, and our start, and victory today over QPR, has not come as a surprise to him.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the nervy game, Clarke said he knew we were good enough to win, even if we did make life a bit difficult for ourselves today.

'I knew I was coming into a good group of players and I knew they were comfortable in the league. I looked at the matches coming up and I felt that with the strength of the team, and getting the right people into the club, we could do it. It all means I'm not over surprised. I'm delighted because 14 points is a great return from the first seven games but we won't get carried away, next, we have the champions Manchester City here - that's a tough game - and we'll look forward to it.'

Elsewhere on wba.co.uk Clarke also said more specifically on the QPR game.

'Yes, we probably made harder work of it that it should have been. From 2-0 up we became a bit too open. Defensively it wasn't a performance you would associate with us.'

As for the Tamas change at halftime, Clarke added.

'I took Gabi off because I felt the referee had his eye on him. I thought he booked him really easily and it wasn't worth the risk of leaving him on. It was a tactical decision to take him off.'
