West Bromwich Albion have pledged support to a project that will celebrate the work of club legends Brendon Batson MBE, Cyrille Regis MBE and Laurie Cunningham.
Plans for a 10ft stature of the trio in West Bromwich Town Centre were announced today and it will be unveiled on July 14, 2014 - the 25th anniversary of Laurie's sad death in a car crash in Spain.
The statue will be known as 'The Celebration' and is being created by sculpter Graham Ibbeson, with the project being run by local businessman Jim Cadman, helped by Sandwell Council.
Speaking to wba.co.uk CEO Mark Jenkins said.
'Our plans to honour Tony's incomparable service to the club have been well documented, Tony was obviously team mates with Brendon, Cyrille and Laurie in that great team of the seventies and everyone at this football club is proud of the pioneering work they did for black footballers while wearing the Albion shirt and it is only fitting that their achievements both on and off the field are being celebrated in this manner.'
