Albion Hold The Aces On Olsson?

Dan Ashworth is becoming quite popular in the media lately, recently saying that Albion might be prepared to let Jonas Olsson leave on a free if a deal cannot be achieved.

Speaking to the E&S Ashworth explained that there wasn't a huge cash outlay when bringing Jonas to the club, so if a deal cannot be struck for an extended contract the club would determine whether it was in our best interests to cash in, or keep the player for the extra year to allow time for a replacement to be found, even if that means Olsson would leave for nothing at the end.

'There wasn't a huge outlay on a transfer fee so we don't need to make a huge amount of money back if we decided to run the contract down. We would have to weigh it up and decide whether there is a transfer offer that meets the value of getting a replacement. It's a difficult one to answer because we haven't had any offers and I don't want to sell him.'

Ashworth adds that if that decision is taken, he doesn't for one second believe it would affect Olsson's performances due to him being a 'very professional serious man.' Which is all well and good, but with Olsson due to meet Steve Clarke, I'm not 100% convinced this is the time to be discussing such matters in the press.
