Steve Clarke has said he is honoured at being appointed as the Baggies head coach and he's determined to be a success.
Speaking to wba.co.uk Clarke said.
'I'm absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity, becoming a head coach in my own right has always been an ambition of mine and I feel I have served my apprenticeship.'
As many will know, Steve's 14 year apprenticeship as a coach or No2 has seen him learn from the likes of Bobby Robson, Jose Mourinho and Kenny Dalglish so he should be walking into the job with his eyes wide open on what he needs to do to continue the success and stability Roy helped create.
'It's a process I've gone through, with a plan to work as hard as I could alongside some of the best managers and coaches in the world, learning as much as possible, before stepping out on my own. I've taken something from every manager I've worked with and I've felt ready to make the step up for some time. I'm delighted West Bromwich Albion have given me the chance to make that progression and I'm determined to make the most of it. I can't wait to get started.'
It's seemed like a long slog at points as the club clearly took their time over the appointment, but as I've already said I have a good feeling about Clarke. It won't all be plain sailing and they'll be lessons he'll have to learn quickly about being in the top job, but I think he'll do well for us.
