Youssouf Mulumbu has apparently told the French press that his agent is already having discussions with Newcastle and Spurs...but it has come as news to the club.
The quotes carried by Mercato 365 are.
'We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham. For now, I'm leaving it all in the hands of my agent and I hope to have good surprises on my return from vacation.'
What is it with players thinking that they can say what they like to foreign press agencies without ever realising it does kind of make it's way back to England?
Stupidly daft situation to now find himself in, surely if he wants a new challenge he could be professional and speak to the club directly and then if necessary put in a transfer request...where is the sense in bleating and blowing your own trumpet to the press?
Mulumbu continued.
'Last year, I thought it would be a little premature to go because it was my first full season. But I confirmed my promise this season, I continued to show all my abilities and I think I now have to look for another challenge. That's why I hope to join a club in another class.'
Well I'm going to ignore the obvious slating he can be given for this, especially as he himself admitted he struggled at points to live up to his own standards last season but whilst I can possibly see Newcastle being interested in him, Spurs...with the midfield they boast, no chance really.
And a club in another class, does he think he'll walk into a Champions League team?
Albion did bloody well this season and even with Roy going I don't see why we can't match or beat our achievements next campaign, so clubs above us does he think he is attractive too after such a short spell in the Premiership?
The mind boggles, it really does.
Yes last season there were the links to other clubs abroad, Fiorentina for a start, but it's a bit rich to sign a new extension on far better terms to then play through the press 6 months later.
I have no problems with Mulumbu being ambitious and making the most of the 'cash' opportunity football gives, but come on son, play the game the right way, not like a spoilt little child crying to the press because you think it's clever.
