Villa Accept Bid for Kevin Phillips

Albion have today confirmed that they have had an approach accepted for Villa striker Kevin Phillips.

Villa have accepted an identical bid for the 33 year old hitman from his former club Sunderland. It is reported that Phillips will have talks with Bryan Robson and Jeremy Peace today and will travel to the struggling North East club tomorrow.

Albion appear to be the front runners as Phillips lives in the Birmingham area which is considerably closer to his Family who live in the South. The biggest threat is the fact that Phillips enjoyed a highly successful partnership with Sunderland Supremo Niall Quinn when he finished the Premiership Top Scorer so a return to Sunderland, where he is a Legend, could be an emotional pull.

It is now down to Bryan Robson and Chairman Jeremy Peace to convince Phillips that a move to the Hawthorns is the right one.

I have no doubt that he would be up to the task in the Championship but if we do sign him i hope the board dont think that will suffice as we are really starved for pace. Phillips and Hartson sounds very slow! I think the pull of a return to Sunderland may hinder the deal somewhat.
