Thorne Out For The Season

George Thorne has returned to West Bromwich Albion after being ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The young midfielder has started the last 10 games for Portsmouth but suffered the ankle injury against Burnley and left the ground on crutches.

It's a big blow to Michael Appleton and Pompey, and of course it's a huge blow for George who has come on leaps and bounds this season.

Speaking to Portsmouth's Official Site former assistant coach Appy said.

'Unfortunately I think his season is over. He took a bit of a knock on his ankle and has done one of his joints and he will need to see a specialist at some point regarding whether or not he will need surgery.'

Appleton is confident that it won't be a long term injury for Thorne, but with only a few weeks left it's highly unlikely he will play again this season so it makes sense for him to return to us for treatment.

Appleton added on his performances since rejoining the club on loan.

'In the last three or four games he has been outstanding and his screening skills in front of the back four has been very good. He has a bright future ahead of him, I have said all along that West Brom have got a fantastic player there.'

Hopefully it won't be a long term issue, and he can get himself fit and raring to go for next season.
