Gareth McAuley had more than one reason to celebrate his winner against Chelsea.
Not only was it his first goal at The Hawthorns for the Baggies, not only was it our first league victory in 33 years but whilst at Ipswich he was on the receiving end of a 7-0 thrashing from the Stamford Bridge crowd in last season's FA Cup.
Not content with that, he's also hoping to play a part in ending another record as it's been more than 33 years since we won at Old Trafford.
Speaking to wba.co.uk the centre half said.
'Any goal is a big goal but it's special to score for the club at The Hawthorns and very nice to get a winner, especially against a club like Chelsea. It's a massive three points for us, we're on a crest of a wave and confidence is high, and we just want to keep on that now.'
Moving onto the upcoming Manchester United clash, McAuley is aware of the history and knows the last time we won at Old Trafford was way back in December 1979 with a memorable 5-3 victory, but knows we can take heart from last season's 2-2 draw where we were the only team to take a point on their territory.
'Can we win? Why not? Manchester United is a tough place to go but we're going there confident and if we stick to the game plan, who knows what will happen? We keep on breaking records this season and that's another one that we can aim for.'
Got to love the confidence in the team now haven't you!
