'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Roy's Response: Heartache For Dawson

Roy Hodgson has said that Craig Dawson was inconsolable after his error led to Norwich's winner today.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the game Hodgson said he had nothing but encouragement for the youngster who paid a harsh price for a single error in an otherwise commanding performance.

'It was a great pity for the game to end that way and, of course a great pity for the player involved because young Craig is making his way in the game. It was really unfortunate for him because he didn't play at all badly in the game. Having said that, and as I've said to him, the only thing he can do is forget it and get on with it because it was a genuine mistake. I've told him to shrug it off as best as he can.'

At his age yes it'll have completely ruined his weekend, but as a youngster you have to deal with moments of madness like that and improve mentally to make sure you never make a similar error again. I'm sure from what we've seen of Craig so far, he'll cope with this and come back stronger for it.

As for the match, Hodgson says that he feels we did more than enough (like we have in plenty of games this season) to take the victory, but we've ended up on the losing side again because we haven't taken our chances.

Calling this spell 'deja vu' a 'burden' and a 'hoodoo' he adds that feeling sorry for ourselves won't do anything, so we have to keep working hard on the training pitch and doing our upmost to get that elusive run of wins.
