Odemwingie Feared A Booking For Goal

Odemwingie Feared A Booking For Goal

Peter Odemwingie has said he thought he was offside for his first goal against Cardiff and thought he might be booked for kicking the ball away when he scored.

Speaking to wba.co.uk after the victory, the striker said.

'There was a doubt that if I kicked the ball I could get a yellow card for doing it after the whistle, but I had no time to look at the linesman and I knew I couldn't get a yellow for finishing so fast. I thought it was offside but the referee told me their left back was playing me on.'

Odemwingie also revealed that Roy Hodgson was adamant that the team had to take the cup seriously because he really wants to break out 50 year hoodoo.

'The head coach spoke about how it's been over 50 years since the club won the FA Cup and he said this year it would be a very good cup to win, so let's do our best in it. He said he wasn't taking this match lightly, he was very serious about it. We are hoping to go as far as possible in this tournament.'
