'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Tie Down Roy Barks Billy

Billy Jones has urged the club to tie Roy Hodgson down to an extended deal describing him as vital to our progression.

Speaking to the Sunday Mercury Jones said he fully believed that Roy was key to us becoming a stable Premiership team and the club should work as fast as they can to get a new deal in place.

'He's massively important to the club, the direction and the organisation he brought to the team set them on that great run and I'm sure we will show that again. The aim of the gaffer in general is to take the club on to the next level. We want to become an established Premier League team.'

With talks set for the new year and following the departure of Michael Appleton, if there was any truth in the rumours that Roy would be stepping down at the end of the current contract, I'd imagine that has gone right out the window now.

Roy is the right man to bring you Premiership stability, much in the same way that someone like Tony Pulis has done with Stoke.

Absolutely. We could've had a better start to the season but things are slowly clicking - we've still got Odemwingie way off form to come back - but a good steady finish again and further improvement will do us. Then who knows, maybe we'll get the same progress Fulham had under Roy and really start pushing on, but sensibly.
