Michael Appleton has been appointed as the new boss of Championship Portsmouth after a compensation package was agreed.
The 35 year old former assistant coach has finally brought his almost 11 year association at the club to an end, and all wish him the very best as he puts his first foot on the managerial ladder.
He has today signed a 3 and a half year deal with Pompey.
Sporting & Technical Director Dan Ashworth said.
'Michael has made no secret of the fact his ultimate ambition is to became a manager. Over the past few years, several clubs have shown an interest in him but it was going to take something special to lure him from Albion. We fully understand why he wanted to take this opportunity. I would personally like to thank Michael for all his hard work since I joined the club eight years ago. I sincerely wish him all the best at Fratton Park, Portsmouth have made an excellent appointment.'
Roy Hodgson also wished to wish him the best for the future, and added.
'I, and the rest of the coaching staff, would like to wish Michael all the very best in his new job and thank him very much for the work he has put in during my time at the club. He fully deserves this opportunity. We will miss him, our loss is going to be Portsmouth's gain.'
