Manchester United have been told that there will be no deal to take Tomasz Kuszczak to Old Trafford unless Giuseppe Rossi is sent to Albion on loan for the season.
Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace confirmed that Albion had turned down an offer of £2.5 million for the Polish international and that there would be no further discussions unless United agreed to let Rossi leave on loan.
Peace told the official site, 'At this moment in time, selling Tomasz to United is not a viable option.
'It would severely weaken our squad at a time when we are trying to strengthen it for a promotion push.
'We have had numerous talks with United and have told them any deal would have to include their highly-rated young striker, Giuseppe Rossi, joining us on loan for a season.
Albion are looking to strengthen their forward options and see Rossi as the perfect player to play alongside John Hartson and Nathan Ellington but United insist that the youngster will not be going out on loan.
Kuszczak has told Albion that he wants to go to United but Albion will only sell if United agree to let Rossi come to The Hawthorns.
