Mattock Making His Mark For Shorey

Michael Appleton has said he has been hugely impressed with Joe Mattock's work ethic on the training pitch and that he's more than risen to the challenge of being Nicky Shorey's main competition.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Appleton said the 21 year old was certainly showing he was capable of enjoying life in the Premiership.

'I don't think we have to hope he will push Nicky because I think it has already happened. Joe has come in and trained ever so well so I'm sure he sees an opportunity. There is healthy competition now.'

With the departure of Cech, Mattock has more than earnt his shot of displacing Shorey, and if he keeps working hard I'm sure it won't be long before Roy gives him some decent game time.
