Squad Fitness Will Determine Gera Chances
Roy Hodgson has reiterated that he won't rush Zoltan Gera back into action and he's going to assess the fitness of our returning internationals before deciding what part the 32 year old might play against Norwich.
Speaking to wba.co.uk that gaffer said he was delighted with the work that Gera has been putting in since he returned to training and although his ankle injury is now fine, he's obviously lacking match practice and sharpness, so Hodgson doesn't want to push him back into first team action too early.
'Zoltan is fit, but he's not match fit. He hasn't played a game since last season but he's looking good physically. I wouldn't be looking to throw him in from the start unless I have to. If we have other alternatives, the chances are I will leave it a bit longer because he has only done two sessions with half a team.'
Hodgson adds if everybody returns fit, Gera may have a place on the bench and be eased in that way.
