'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Long Will Keep Improving

Roy Hodgson has said that he believes it is only a matter of time before the 'big' clubs come in for Shane Long given his improvement over the last few years.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson described Long's progress as a 'meteoric rise' over the past few years and just as he believes now was the right time for him to progress from the Championship to the Premiership, he thinks it's only a matter of time before the Top 4 start looking seriously at him.

'I think Shane was ripe for the move from the Championship to the Premier League. He's shown his credentials and his maturity, Reading were very sad to lose him and I can fully understand that. If he continues to improve and make the same, almost semi meteoric rise he's had since coming from Ireland to Reading, if he carries on like that, in two or three years' time I wouldn't be surprised if bigger clubs than ours are knocking on our door.'
