'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Long Has Major Role To Play

Roy Hodgson had dismissed reports suggesting that Shane Long is simply back up for Peter Odemwingie.

Speaking to wba.co.uk the gaffer said Shane has a huge part to play and was signed to be part of the first team, and not backup as suggested.

'We don't sign players of Long's quality and pay the money that a player of Long's quality costs as a back up. Manchester City do that, but we don't. We brought him in because of his track record and the fact I think he will suit Albion really well.'
