19 Man Squad Announced For First Friendly

New boys Billy Jones and Gareth McAuley have found themselves in the squad for our first friendly of pre season.

Speaking to wba.co.uk assistant coach Michael Appleton explained that a few players would be staying behind to work on their fitness.

The full squad travelling for the Earthquakes game are.

Myhill, Reid, Dawson, Ibanez, Cech, Jones, McAuley, Shorey, Brunt, Morrison, Thorne, Thomas, Mantom, Scharner, Odemwingie, Bednar, Miller, Fortune, Wood.

'Our first training session went well and everyone came through it okay. The squad we've selected takes into account the fact our final game of the tour against Portland Timbers is on a 4G artificial pitch, so there are two or three players who will play against San Jose but won't play against Portland.'

Apparently we have players who don't tend to train on artificial pitches, so pre season sounds like a chance for all, but based on favoured pitches for you would imagine medical preferences.

Very sensible really.

3.30am kick off apparently - time zones do my head in. I won't be staying awake for that sadly.
