Roy's Rebuild Begins - McAuley Confirmed

The Baggies have confirmed that Ipswich's centre half Gareth McAuley will join the club on a free transfer on July 1.

The 31 year old Northern Ireland International has put pen to paper on a three year contract.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Roy Hodgson said.

'I would like to welcome Gareth to the club and I am very please we have added a player of his quality and experience to our team.'

McAuley is preparing for Northern Ireland's games in the Carling Nations Cup, they face Eire tomorrow night and then Wales three days later. Both games will take place at the Aviva Stadium.

Vital Ipswich editor here. Whilst there are those that didn't rate him, I think the majority of Town fans were very sad to lose this guy. He's been as rock solid as one could have asked for throughout a turbulent time in our recent history and most are angry at how he has been allowed to leave for free. Whether he can cut it in the top flight for you is difficult to say, but he has certainly deserved his chance.

Appreciated Darren, going to be interesting to see how he fits in given the overall form of our centre pairing since Roy joined.
