'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cox Delighted With Ireland Recognition

Simon Cox has joked that he was more than willing to cancel his holiday plans after finding out that Giovanni Trapattoni wanted to take a closer look at him.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Cox said the idea of winnig his debut cap against Northern Ireland or Scotland was more than enough reason to cancel trips to Marbella and Dubai.

'I got a call from one of the guys at the FAI to say they were thinking of calling me up. The chance to play international football is not something I want to pass up.'

Cox had to delve deep into his family history to confirm the Reading born striker qualified for the Republic via his Galway born grandmother, but once that was all in order the holiday was the first thing out of the window.

'It's a good time for me to get in and around it at this stage of my development, I see getting caps for Ireland as a proud moment and so do the family. My grandmother is very proud.'

Congratulations Simon, we'll be rooting for you.
