Roy's Response: Woymarkable Walking Wounded

Roy's Response: Woymarkable Walking Wounded

Roy Hodgson has hailed a remarkable performance by the Baggies today as we almost caused a huge title race upset against Arsenal.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following our 2-2 draw, Hodgson was delighted with the performance and effort of the players - especially as four players were carrying injuries or playing through illness.

Some fans might be gutted to have seen us not hang on for the 3 points, but Roy certainly doesn't see that as a major problem although he was slightly disappointment himself.

'It would be wrong to be upset that we didn't hang on because I thought it was a sterling effort by the players, we were playing against a very good team. It was always going to be hard not to concede a goal, but it is disappointing to be 2-0 up and not get a victory.'

Speaking specifically about our walking wounded today, Roy added.

'Today we were hampered by Scharner's concussion and to some extent by Morrison - it's incredible he did so well with the gash that he's got in his forehead. Brunt was lying in bed sick yesterday - I was astounded when I got to the training ground this morning and he was declared fit.

'So, all those things considered, I think it was a remarkable effort from the players to take a top-class team so close to a defeat. Unfortunately we couldn't go all the way.'

Despite the unfortunate fact we couldn't take all 3 points, Hodgson says that we must be happy to take the point given the fact Arsenal are challenging for the title and every point is important come the end of the season - especially those where the betting guides would have you down as picking up nothing.

'I think you have to be humble enough to understand we had a tough task on our hands and we had to work very hard to get anything from the game. Maybe getting a point is something I should be proud of. I'm certainly very proud of the players' performance.'

I think you'd be hard pushed not to find a Baggy who isn't proud tonight!
